My First Earthquake, sorta.

So yesterday I was sitting at the computer playing some card game when I noticed my chair was shaking a bit. I was rather confused and tried to figure out the cause. Less than a minute later it did and all went back to normal. I don't think anyone else even noticed. After a few moments I thought, "Hmm, I wonder if that's what an earthquake would feel like". I soon forgot all about it as I was once again wrapped up in my card game.

Turns out there was an earthquake in Tanzania yesterday and what I felt was indeed part of it. It was a 6.0 magnitude not far from Arusha where I have been before. Thankfully, there's been no casualty reports yet and hopefully everyone is fine. You can read a story here or see the stats here.

All in all, not a big deal, but I'm going to add it to a list of my African firsts: chasing down cheetahs, heroically surviving bomb attacks, jumping over canyons created by massive earthquakes...

Hi Brian. Amy asked if I could give you a suggestion on a tour company to set up your safaris. This is the company that I used and also a friend, Tommy Robinson, used. Tommy used them a lot in the late '90's. They should give you good service.

You will definitely want to go to Masai Mara (personally, I think you would like governor's camp although the Masai Serena is also nice). You might also consider Samburu, Mountain Lodge at Mt. Kenya, Ambaselli (spelling?), and Lake Nakuru. Wherever you go, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Mombasa is nice change of pace if it's safe; there was a travel advisory out for it a while back.

Brian,

When you get a chance--let us hear more about TeV and the theft of the computers.

Glad you are experiencing California (earthquakes) during your time in TZ!

Blessings--Bruce and Joan
